A section of the busy M8 remains closed after a serious road traffic accident last night.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the westbound carriageway between J7a Shawhead and Junction 8 at Baillieston at around 9pm on November 19.
Motorists are being diverted via the A725, M74 and M73 with travellers warned to expect delays.
Traffic Scotland tweeted: “M8 westbound remains closed J7A-J8 due to a serious RTC.
“Investigations are ongoing. Approx an extra 25 mins journey time via diversion route.”
It is not currently known how many vehicles were involved or the extent of any injuries.
Traffic is building in the surrounding area with long queues at the A725 Bellshill bypass.
Police Scotland confirmed they were called to the scene on Thursday night.
A statement said: “The M8 westbound, between J7A and J8, Baillieston, is closed following a serious crash last night around 8.45 pm.
"Closure is expected to last through morning rush hour. Please avoid the area, allow extra time for your journey and follow the diversions."
