Motorists have been urged to find alternative routes.
It's understood a major gas leak forced emergency crews to close the busy stretch around 9.20am this morning.

It is not known when the road will be reopened to members of the public.
A spokesman for SGN said: "We're carrying out emergency repairs to our gas main in the A737 between Howwood and Lochwinnoch.
"For everyone's safety, the A737 is temporarily closed both ways between its junctions with the A760 and the B787. The emergency services are helping to redirect motorists.
"We know this is a busy route, so our teams are working as quickly and safely as possible to complete our repairs. It's too early to say at this stage how long this will take."
