Traffic chaos as police forced to close M6 after cow wanders onto carriageway

A cow has caused chaos on the motorway this morning as police were forced to close the road.

Two lanes of the M6 northbound at junction 18, are currently closed while Highways England deal with the incident.

The cow was spotted on the grass verge close to the barrier of the motorway on Monday.

Motorists are being asked to allow extra time for their morning commute if they are travelling in that direction.

A spokesperson from North West Motorway Police said: "There are currently two lanes of four of the northbound M6 closed at this location. Whilst this incident is dealt with.

"Please allow extra time for your morning commute if heading this way.

"We have a report of a cow on the grass verge by the barrier on M6 just before junction 18, Highways are making to deal."
