Traffic chaos as double multi-vehicle crash causes huge tailbacks on M80

A double multi-vehicle crash has partially closed the M80 southbound causing huge traffic disruption.

Emergency services responded to the incidents that happened between the Castlecary and Old Inns Interchange junctions at about 7.30 this morning.

A number of cars were involved in the incidents that completely blocked lanes two and three of the busy motorway.

Some cars have managed to get by in lane one but heavy queues are building up on the approach.

Emergency services and TRISS - the Trunk Roads Incident Support unit - responded to the incident.

Traffic Scotland said there was “very heavy traffic on approach” and said drivers should expect delays of up to 20 minutes with queues back to the M876.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 7.30 am to a report of a multi-car crash on the M80, southbound at junction 6A, near Castlecary.

"This was followed by a second crash a few hundred yards behind the first one, also involving several vehicles.

"Officers are still at the scene but there do not appear to be any injuries. The road is not blocked and the vehicles area waiting on recovery."

Updates to follow through the morning.
