Traffic chaos as man dies in truck accident on Sydney's M1

Truck crash causes heavy delays on Sydney's M1

A man has died in a multi-vehicle crash on the M1 motorway at Mt White that has caused traffic chaos for commuters heading north out of Sydney.

Police said the accident occurred about 4:45pm when a ute and a truck, that were both travelling north, collided with each other.

A passing motorist told the ABC that a semi-trailer left the road and ploughed through bushland, just south of the Mooney Mooney Creek Bridge.

The Transport Management Centre said one of the three northbound lanes was still closed and traffic was now banked up for 21 kilometres.

Police said the driver of the ute died at the scene. His identity has not been confirmed.

The male driver of the truck is not believed to have been seriously injured.

He has been taken to hospital, where he will undergo mandatory blood and urine tests.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
