Traffic chaos and delays expected as farmers protest continues in Dublin

Traffic chaos is expected as a protest by farmers continues in Dublin this morning.

Yesterday hundreds of tractors rolled up to the capital for a protest over beef prices.

And the demonstration will continue today, which could lead to huge delays for commuters in the capital.

Protesters allegedly made unofficial threats to disrupt the M50 and other major roads surrounding the city.

AA Roadwatch says Stephen’s Green East and North are closed along with Kildare St and Dawson St.

Earlsfort Terrace is closed, along with Leeson St outbound, but traffic can currently use St Stephen’s Green South to go from Leeson St inbound to Cuffe St.

Merrion Square South and East, and Merrion St Upper are also closed.

The Kevin St/Cuffe St stretch is closed to traffic heading towards Stephen’s Green.

On Tuesday more than 100 tractors and 4x4s were driven into Dublin, bringing the city to a standstill.

A Garda barricade put a halt to the fleet of tractors and protesters at Kildare Street as activists from across the country came to Dublin to hand Agriculture Minister Michael Creed a letter outlining their demands.

Joleen Smyth, from Co Cavan, told the Irish Mirror: “We’re looking at the demise of rural Ireland every day, businesses are closing down left, right and centre. We can’t get numbers to fill our schools, our football teams.

“We are losing them to this rat race of a city [Dublin].

“Until our Government takes action we will see the next generation lost to the city.

“We need action and we need it now.”
