Traffic building after M62 crash closes one lane - with emergency repairs needed

One lane of the M62 has been closed after a crash which left the road in need of emergency repairs.

A collision on the eastbound carriageway of the major route earlier this morning closed a section of the hard shoulder and the inside lane between junction 21 for Milnrow, and junction 22 for Denshaw.

Traffic has been building throughout the morning, with congestion currently backing up to junction 20 for Rochdale.

Drivers have been urged to leave more time for their journeys than usual if they're travelling in the area, with traffic speeds dropping to under 30mph around junction 21.

Although this morning's crash has now been cleared, the lane closures remain in place so that emergency repairs can be carried out.

CCTV footage shows some damage to the barrier, and a small spillage at the crash site.

Traffic is expected to return to normal by 9.30am, with the lanes set to reopen by around 9.15am.

It is not yet known whether anyone was injured, but Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for comment.
