Traffic and parking fears in Netherfield where there are 'too many' supermarkets

People in Netherfield fear the prospect of more traffic because of the amount of new supermarkets in the area.

Earlier this year, an Aldi store was given the green light to be built off the A612 Colwick Loop Road, creating more than 100 jobs at Teal Park, a trade park located next to the large Rivendell housing estate.

A long-awaited Sainsbury's is also set to open in Colwick this week.

But people in the area said there was "too much" and that the amount of supermarkets will cause traffic issues.

Supervisor Pamela Ale, 52, said: "It is too much, it only takes customers from one shop to another.

"There will be more traffic, less car parking spaces.

"I think the spaces should be turned into different stores instead of more supermarkets."

Retired Joan White, 77, who shops regularly at Aldi, said: "I don't see the reason for another store so close to the other one.

"We come food shopping very rarely, with online shopping you don't really need to.

"I don't see the point in more supermarkets."

Richard Newman, 67, retired, has been using online delivery services since the pandemic.

He said: "To be honest I haven't been to a supermarket since lockdown.

"We get our shopping delivered, so all the new stores won't affect us.

"We always use Tesco's, it is very convenient and a good service.

"The new supermarkets won't make us shop there, we're happy with Tesco's efficient service."
