Trae Young inexplicably got ejected for staring down Kris Dunn

Hawks rookie Trae Young had put together career-best performances for three straight games, but it was the officials that snapped that streak on Sunday.

Young was ejected early in the third quarter of Atlanta’s game against the Bulls after he knocked down a deep 3 and stared down Kris Dunn.

Young had already been assessed a technical in the first half after exchanging words with Dunn when the Bulls guard slapped him on the back of the head. Given that the officials knew the implications of a second technical, this call was absolutely ridiculous.

Young didn’t say a word to Dunn — simply stared at him.

That should never be a technical in the NBA.

If the officials took issue with the staredown, they could have warned Young or reminded him he was already playing with a technical. Instead, they chose to eject Young who was on his way to another impressive game.

At the time of the ejection (with just over 9 minutes remaining in the third), Young had 18 points and five assists on 6 of 9 shooting.
