The Korean Cultural Center presents a series of Korean folk performances called "K-Beat: Spin, Jump, Fly" tomorrow at 6.30pm.
Held as part of the "Korean Culture Day" series that presents a variety of Korean cultural activities on every last Wednesday of the month, this programme of Korean traditional music and folk play will be performed by the award-winning Gwangdae, a Korean traditional performing arts troupe.
Local audiences will hopefully be fascinated by the traditional Korean lion dance (saja nori) as well as hat twisting (sangmo) and plate spinning (beona nori) acts, and, last but not least, percussion music. The performances are interactive, often funny, and the audience is invited to join in with the performers during the show. The troupe has been to many countries already and received very positive responses all around.
Founded in 2006, The Gwangdae is comprised of graduates from the Korea National University of Arts and apprentices of the Goseong Five Clowns. The group aims to combine art suitable for the present with traditional elements such as talchum (mask dance-drama), pungmul (farmer's band music) and namsadang nori (street performance by wayfaring male entertainers).
The Gwangdae's performance will commence with a parade departing from Sukhumvit Plaza (Korean Town), at the entrance of Sukhumvit 12, and heading to Korean Cultural Center which is located between Sukhumvit 15 and 17.
