Traditional Notts village pub set to re-open after £200k revamp

A traditional Notts pub that's a favourite with locals and visitors from further afield will re-open on Friday (July 12) after a £200,000 makeover.

The Horse and Groom, an old coaching inn with original features such as open fires and oak beams, is getting a fresh new look, inside and out.

The Greene King boozer, in Moorgreen, Newthorpe, has been gutted since closing earlier this month ready for the refurbishment - the first in eight years for the family-friendly pub.

Manager Antony Cooper said: "There's going to be a big overhaul of the restaurant with brand new furniture, decoration and carpet and the bar will be made more 'pubby' and comfortable for drinking.

"The extension is also going to be done and we will have a new patio at the back with lighting so people can drink a little later outside."

The pub has a beer garden with space for 200 people to enjoy a tipple in the sunshine and take in the rural views over sprawling fields.

"It will be fresh and bright ready for the summer. We are a destination pub - people travel here for a meal and we do full table service and we get quite a few locals coming in for drinks. The view is really nice at the front you can see for miles - as far as Crich - on a clear day," added Mr Cooper.

"We have looked after it over the last eight years but it's always good to have some money to spend to make it look fresh and brand new."
