Trading up, trading down – in pictures

Trading up/down 010611: Trading up in Woodchester, Gloucestershire
Trading up: Gloucestershire. The nuns of the Order of Poor Clares in Woodchester might be, er … poor, but they've enjoyed a stunning home for the past couple of centuries. Following the order’s decision to relocate from this 17th-century, grade II-listed convent set in 26 acres to Devon, the Clifton diocese has put it on the market for £2.25m. The agent suggests it could be put to several uses, including as a hotel, a training centre, a residential institution or as straightforward residential.

Trading up/down 010611: Trading up in East Leake, Leicestershire
Trading up: Leicestershire. This five-double bed house in East Leake, Loughborough, combines period features – including open fireplaces, tall skirting boards and sash windows – with a modern kitchen, a gym in the basement and a whirlpool bath in the master bedroom en suite. Proportions are generous: even the hall looks twice as wide as the standard Victorian passageway, and the mainly lawned garden is huge. Cost: £495,000.

Trading up/down 010611: Trading up in Leeds, West Yorkshire
Trading up: West Yorkshire. We often feature properties that are Georgian, or are farmhouses, or are in picturesque canalside settings, or have paddocks – but this grade II stunner on the Rodley/Bramley border just outside Leeds offers all these things. The rooms are enormous and it has been sympathetically restored by its current owners. The four bedrooms, lounge, sitting room, two dining rooms and a family bathroom big enough to hold a party in means there is plenty of space for any growing family (and their pony). On the market for £500,000.

Trading up/down 010611: Trading down in Cold Kirby, North Yorkshire
Trading down: North Yorkshire. Cold Kirby, near Thirsk, is an unspoilt village in the heart of the North York Moors national park, surrounded by fabulous countryside, making it a great base for anyone into walking and other outdoor pursuits. This stone cottage has three bedrooms and a spacious lounge cum dining room which overlooks the village green at the front. Yours for £249,995, it still has oil central heating and septic tank drainage.

Trading up/down 010611: Trading down in Birtley, County Durham
Trading down: County Durham. The inside of the Old School House in Birtley, Chester Le Street, looks like it needs a bit of work doing, including new carpets, but it wouldn’t take too much to return this charismatic property to its former glory. It has two receptions and either three bedrooms and a study, or four bedrooms, as well as a resonably-sized kitchen, all for £200,000.
