People involved in international trade may have hoped for great things from the WTO talks at Doha - sorry to disappoint, but The Guardian reports a distinct lack of breakthroughs. The same paper reports more concerns for Gordon Brown's budgeting and the need for tax increases. The Times concurs, while The Independent leads on the economic slowdown that will lead to the shortfall.
The Telegraph notes the big stories but also zeroes in on warnings that the UK is letting its best ideas go oversea, which wouldn't be entirely out of character from the country that developed the World Wide Web and then watched as the Americans realised what it could actually do. The same paper has more on pensions; I've been tracking stories and opinions on the pension age through this blog, now there are warnings about increased obligations for companies with pension plans. And just to cheer everyone up a bit more, today's Evening Standard will carry a story about how more companies than before are lining up to go bust anyway.
Finally for anyone sick of hearing anti-Euro rants from the usual suspects, both individuals and newspapers, here's Silvio Berlusconi in the Independent doing Veritas' job for it...
