Tradie in court on biker's ladder death

A man charged over the death of a motorcyclist on the Pacific Motorway has faced in court. (AAP)

A Gold Coast man charged after a ladder allegedly fell off his ute causing a crash that killed a motorcyclist has faced court.

Brodie Troy Smith, 40, was allegedly driving his Mitsubishi ute on the Pacific Motorway in Queensland on November 2 at Nerang when the crash occurred.

Police allege a ladder fell from the tray of his ute and into the path of a 53-year-old motorcyclist who was riding behind the vehicle.

The rider tried to swerve to avoid the ladder but was struck by another vehicle.

The motorcyclist was fatally injured and died at the scene.

Smith appeared in Southport Magistrate Court on Wednesday charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.

He did not enter a plea and was remanded to reappear on May 20 for committal mention.
