Frank Clark agrees to 5-year extension with Chiefs as part of trade

The Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City have agreed to a trade to send defensive end Frank Clark to the Chiefs in exchange for a 2019 first-round pick, a 2020 second-round pick and a swap of this year’s third rounders in the NFL draft.

The deal likely won’t be formally announced until a number of housekeeping issues are ironed out.

“Frank Clark and Chiefs still are working out final details on what will be a massive contract extension and once it is agreed to, Clark will fly to Kansas City to take physical and finalize trade, per sources,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted this morning.

Clark and the Chiefs have now reached a contract extension.

“Chiefs and Frank Clark reached agreement on a 5 yrs, $105.5 million contract – greater total than DeMarcus Lawrence, with $63.5 million guaranteed, per source,” Schefter reported.

Seattle had designated Clark with the non-exclusive franchise tag in March but had yet to reach a deal to keep the defensive end in Seattle for the long term. With the trade, Clark will get the extension he was seeking.

As for the Seahawks, they have now acquired an additional first-round pick for this year’s draft, which they could use to find Clark’s replacement on the defensive line.
