'Trade it all' - Sadio Mane makes honest Liverpool trophy claim ahead of AFCON

Sadio Mane has admitted he would 'trade' all of the trophies won during his career to date if it meant he would be victorious at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Liverpool forward will represent his home country Senegal at the upcoming tournament in Cameroon, which gets underway on Monday.

Mane's nation are among the favourites to come out on top at AFCON, along with Algeria and Egypt, but have never won the competition in their history.

Senegal came agonisingly close to glory last time out in 2019, but suffered defeat to Algeria at the final hurdle.

Eager to deliver for the Lions on this occasion, however, Mane has made clear he would be prepared to give up the likes of his Champions League and Premier League winners' medals to restore a sense of pride for Senegal.

Featuring in an advert for New Balance, he said: "When I was a kid, they called me Ballonbuwa (ball wizard), but I was always more of a Gaynde (lion): ruthless, explosive, a hunter.

"I have been hunting my whole career, but no matter what I have caught - I am still hungry.

"My people have waited a long time. I would trade it all to win this one. This is my time. The Lion roars."

*Have you say on the Reds' transfer activity*

One player the 29-year-old will be shaping up against during the group stages of AFCON is his Reds team-mate Naby Keita, who will be representing Guinea.

But Senegal are firm favourites to progress from Group B and advance deep into the competition.

Mohamed Salah is likely to pose the biggest threat to stopping Mane's dream of securing silverware for his country as he attempts to continue his frightening form on the international stage.
