Trade deadline passes with no more deals from John Dorsey and the Browns

The NFL trade deadline of 2019 saw a flurry of hints, rumors and speculations, but in the end it wound up being just another Tuesday afternoon for just about everyone. That includes John Dorsey and the Cleveland Browns.

Dorsey was at the epicenter of several trade talks, notably involving Washington Redskins holdout left tackle Trent Williams. Rumors ran rampant, with various asking prices being bantered about. The two sides could not reach an agreement, and once the word spread that Redskins GM Bruce Allen wanted Denzel Ward or other “big-game” talent (think Odell Beckham Jr. or Nick Chubb), it was clear Dorsey was right to not bite on  31-year-old with bad knees who hasn’t even practiced football in almost a full 12 months.

Various corners of the internet speculated about possible trades involving Browns WRs Antonio Callaway and Rashard Higgins, but nothing came of those wisps of thin smoke either.

In the end, Dorsey stood with his current hand and made just the one trade from Monday, sending reserve DE Genard Avery to the Eagles for a 2021 fourth-round pick.
