Tracy Morgan has said that he contemplated killing himself while recovering from the near fatal crash which killed his friend and left him critically injured nearly two years ago.
The comedian and former Saturday Night Live star suffered a traumatic brain injury after his limo van was hit by a Walmart driver who hadn’t slept for 28 hours in a six-vehicle crash. In the aftermath of the accident, Morgan fell into a coma for eight days and was blind for six days when he woke up.
In a lengthy interview with Rolling Stone, the 47-year-old has spoken candidly about his prolonged and gruelling recovery.
“I thought I was going to die for a long time. My thoughts – I was in a very dark place. I was sitting right here, contemplating suicide. I couldn't walk,” the 30 Rock actor said.
Morgan’s close friend and fellow comedian, James McNair who was known by his stage name Jimmy Mack, died in the collision which took place in 2014.
Almost two years on, the Bronx-born actor is upbeat about his recovery, saying he thinks the near-death crash has, in fact, made him funnier.
“Maybe when I was in heaven, Richard Pryor said something to me. I feel funnier than I ever felt,” he reflects.
This is fortunate, because later in the interview, the American comedian says, "I said, 'If my funny ever went away, I'd die'“.
Morgan who is married to 29-year-old model, Megan Wollover, remains positive about the future and thankful for his astounding recovery. He is currently touring the US on his Picking Up The Pieces Tour, which started in February and will run until May.
