Tracy Brabin says 'something positive' has come out of dress-gate

It was the dress that was the talk of the town last week - and now Tracy Brabin has hit back over the "vitriolic" abuse she received over THAT outfit.

The Batley and Spen MP hit the headlines after she was branded a 'tart' by internet trolls when she wore a black off-the-shoulder dress in the House of Commons.

It sparked a huge amount of debate, including on This Morning when Holly Willoughby had to shut down a guest for slamming the outfit as "inappropriate".

But appearing on Tuesday's Good Morning Britain, Tracy had more to say after host Ben Shephard asked her whether her dress was "distracting".

Responding to the ITV presenters comments, the 58-year-old said: "I would say people want to talk about something else other than politics. They're fed up of Brexit after three years. I’m glad something positive has come out of it."

The positive thing to have come out of the vicious trolling is that the £35 dress at the centre of it all is raising money for Girl Guiding after the Labour MP decided to auction it off on Ebay.

At the time of writing, the current bid for the dress was £17,900 after 159 bidders pledged to buy the dress.

"The work they do is phenomenal for girls' confidence and self-esteem," Tracy said of the charity.

She added: "We're there to do a job. I’m here talking about a shoulder. But my job is very important. It's challenging the government."

The former Coronation Street actress also said of the comments she received: "It was quite interesting the vitriolic comments were so shocking and sexualised. I couldn't get my head round it so push back.

"I'm in a privileged position. It didn't bother me much. So many women in the workplace don't have that opportunity."
