HGV driver fighting for life after he suffered a medical episode and smashed into M60 central reservation

A HGV driver is fighting for life in hospital after he suffered a medical episode and smashed into a central reservation on the M60.

The crash took place just past junction 13, for Worsley, on the clockwise carriageway.

Police believe the driver suffered a medical episode and then ploughed into the central reservation.

The 49-year-old driver was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

A section of the motorway was closed for several hours following the incident which took place at around 8pm on Thursday, July 9.

The closure has since been lifted.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

Police Constable Adam Scott, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This tragic accident has left a man in a critical condition, and our thoughts remain with his family and friends at this very difficult time.

“Our enquiries are still in their early stages but due to the location of this incident we are hopeful that there are a number of witnesses who may have dash cam footage or information that could assist us.

“If this is you or you were on either side of the carriageway at around 8pm last night, please do not hesitate to get in touch with police.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident number 2600 of 10/07/2020.  Reports can also be made anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
