Tractor driver, 91, remains in critical condition after crash involving car in Gateshead

A pensioner is still fighting for his life in hospital after suffering serious injuries in a collision between a car and tractor in Gateshead.

Emergency services were called to Stannersford Road, Clara Vale, Crawcrook at around 2pm on Saturday.

The 91-year-old man, who was driving the tractor, was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

He was one of three people taken to hospital following to crash. Two of them were transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead.

The other patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision.

Police are now asking anybody who witnessed the collision, or who were in the area and may have seen a white BMW travelling before the collision, to come forward.

Officers are asking members of the public to check any dashcam footage and get in touch immediately if they have any information that can assist the investigation.
