Tractor convoy dazzles Liverpool and all for a brilliant cause

A convoy of tractors decorated in Christmas lights brought festive cheer to the streets of Merseyside this evening.

Dozens of vehicles drove through the region as part of a massive fundraiser for Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

The 80-strong parade passed the hospital during its procession, with many of the drivers beeping their horns at the children gathered to watch.

The convoy left Tarbock Green at 4.30pm and soon reached the hospital, for which it hoped to raise £5,000.

By 6pm the fundraiser had already received more than £7,000 in donations.

The tractors, supported by Merseyside Police outriders and decorated with everything from snowmen to reindeer, were also due to drive to Stanley Park to drop off donations for Fans Supporting Foodbanks.

Writing on the event's Just Giving page, organiser Oliver Harrison thanked people for their support and said: "With the dark nights and not much to do with Covid lockdowns I saw a great thing being done in the Isle of Man, where farmers were decorating their tractors and taking to the streets to provide a spectacle for people to see.

"I thought I’m sure we could do it bigger and better in Liverpool and also visit Alder Hey hospital at the same time with a convoy of them."
