Tractor, car and jeep all get stuck by tide as boat even tries to help

Dramatic photos show the moment two vehicles were swallowed by the tide after a failed rescue operation.

The incident happened on Hightown beach yesterday afternoon when a white 4x4 reportedly became stuck on the banks.

An eyewitness said a second vehicle went out to rescue the Jeep but also became stuck and then a tractor tried to help the stricken 4x4 but also became stranded.

Photos taken at the scene show clearly how deep the Jeep and the tractor's wheels had sunk into the mud.

Attempts to rescue the stranded vehicles failed as the tide rapidly came in and cut off any rescue hopes.

The water rose quickly around the vehicles and dramatic images show both the tractor and the Jeep almost completely submerged.

It's understood there were any injuries as a result of the incident and coastguard said they were not called as there was no threat to life.

An eyewitness told the ECHO that a Stenna boat tried to help at one point but was unable to get close enough.
