Tracking what the Lions beat writers picked in their final mock drafts

You’ve seen our final mock drafts. But what are the rest of the Lions media projecting for the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft in Detroit?

Dave Birkett, Detroit Free Press

His pick: T.J. Hockenson, TE, Iowa

Birkett mentioned the probability of trading down but stuck with Hockenson even with Devin Bush and Jonah Williams still on the board.

Mike O’Hara, Detroit Lions

His pick: Montez Sweat, EDGE, Mississippi State

O’Hara, the dean of the Lions media, works for the Lions but is not obligated by the team to carry any water for them. He believes Devin White from LSU would be the pick, but O’Hara projected the linebacker to the Buccaneers at No. 5, one of the most popular mock draft picks across the board.

Justin Rogers, Detroit News

His pick: LSU LB Devin White

Rogers was the only mock drafter to not have White gone, and that sends the LSU backer to Detroit. The next two picks in his mock are Montez Sweat and T.J. Hockenson.

Mike Rothstein, ESPN

His pick: Hockenson

Rothstein made his pick as part of ESPN’s mock where their beat writer for every team selected. Sweat was off the board in his scenario, while Dwayne Haskins fell to No. 10.
