Track and trace worker assaulted man who tried to help him at cashpoint

A track and trace worker was frustrated when a cash machine swallowed his card and ended up assaulting a man who offered to help.

The victim approached Martin Green outside an Ambergate Road shop in Beechdale at around 2pm on February 26.

Green, 39, who lives in Ambergate Road, was flailing his arms and caused the man to fall back and his glasses to fall from his face.

Although the victim was not left with any physical injuries, he has a number of ongoing health issues.

He said the result of the assault had caused his pain level to increase and he has had to up his pain medication.

Green pleaded guilty to assaulting the man when he appeared before Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Thursday, July 1. He was fined £200, ordered to pay compensation of £200, costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £34.

The court heard the assault was not intentional or deliberate, it was reckless.

He accepted he was at the cashpoint. He was frustrated at the time and was trying to get money out of the bank but was refused three times.

He flailed his arms and accepted he knocked the complainant's glasses off.

The prosecution said Green had punched the man in the face but this was disputed by Green.

Green had been upset after he had a phone call his dad had been diagnosed with cancer and he has since passed away.

He was frustrated because he could not get money out of the cashpoint. He was also unaware of the health issues the victim had.

It was the first offence he had committed in the last four years. He is on Universal Credit and works at a track and trace centre four days a week. He also suffers from depression and anxiety.

The legal advisor told magistrates Green did not accept he deliberately punch him. He accepted he flailed his arms around and damaged the man's glasses.
