Track and trace at two South Lanarkshire schools after positive Covid results

Two more schools in South Lanarkshire have this week been affected by the coronavirus.

Pupils at Calderside Academy were sent home to self-isolate after a number of them tested positive with Covid-19.

The Blantyre secondary school issued a letter to parents on Monday (October 26) to advise of the cases and that the school will remain open.

It states there is no evidence to suggest that there is transmission in the school, and that the risk to the wider school community is low.

NHS Lanarkshire carried out contact tracing through their test and protect team and pupils in close contact with those testing positive have been notified and asked to self isolate.

Meanwhile, an individual lined to a village primary school has tested positive for Covid-19.

NHS Lanarkshire’s test and protect team have been carrying out tracing at Stonehouse Primary following a positive coronavirus test and the individual is now self-isolating at home.

A letter from NHS Lanarkshire was sent home to parents and carers of children at the school.

It stated: “Noting the increased infection rates in Lanarkshire, it is important to bear in mind that mixing socially in the community without maintaining physical distancing measures helps the virus to spread widely.

“It is therefore important that people remain vigilant and follow physical distancing guidance.

“Pupils and staff should wash hands thoroughly and regularly use soap and water for 20 seconds.”

The primary school will remain open.
