It has been a year since King Bhumibol's passing, but the picture of our beloved monarch is still vivid in our minds. This is mainly because of his virtues that capture our hearts and become valuable legacies for all of us.
To offer a creative means to encourage children to learn about the late monarch's noble qualities and follow in his footsteps, a memorial picture book, titled Wholeheartedly Connected, will be launched and given away at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre this weekend.
Initiated by Pepsi (Thailand), the book is a commemorative collection of nine illustrations featuring King Bhumiobol's nine outstanding characteristics: devotion, humbleness, patience, self-development, gratefulness, sportsmanship, self-sufficiency, simplicity and compassion.
Inspired by the connect-the-dots pictures, each classic black-and-white illustration allows the little ones to take part in drawing pictures of the Father of the Thai nation by simply drawing a line from one heart-shaped dot to another. Each picture is accompanied by a poem describing the accompanying attribute.
The book is a collaboration with Priyasri "Naamnoi" Promchinda, an illustrator notable for having mastered her artistic skills in many volunteer jobs.
A total of 9,999 copies of the Wholeheartedly Connected picture book will be given away at a booth in front of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Pathumwan intersection.
Five thousand copies are set aside for free distribution on Saturday from noon-6pm, and the remaining 4,999 copies are reserved for those who come on Sunday, also from noon-6pm.
On both days, there will be a mini exhibition, where the original illustrations in colour will be displayed, and everyone is invited to draw pictures of King Bhumibol by connecting the dots on a touch-screen. It will be held on the first floor from 10am-9pm.
