The Baltimore Ravens got the first glimpse of their backup quarterback battle during Saturday’s preseason victory against the New Orleans Saints. Both Trace McSorley and Tyler Huntley got to play for one half each, trying to prove to their coaches why they deserve the QB2 spot.
At the end of the game, it was Huntley who took the lead in the competition. It appears that it will stay that way after head coach John Harbaugh provided an update on McSorley, saying the quarterback will miss multiple weeks with a back injury.

With McSorley slated to miss a few weeks, that would mean that he most likely will be absent for the rest of the preseason, which is a big blow to his chances of securing the backup spot to Lamar Jackson. That combined with his subpar performance on Saturday night opens the door wide open for Huntley, who impressed in the preseason opener.
If Huntley does indeed win the QB2 job, it’s possible that Baltimore could opt to place McSorley on injured reserve at some point to keep him with the team, as it’s unlikely that he would pass through waivers to be added to the Ravens’ practice squad.
