Toys 'R' Us is coming back to the UK high street four years after collapse

Toys 'R' Us is ready to make a big comeback to the high street four years after sliding into administration.

All 100 UK branches were closed in 2018 when the retailer collapsed - but plans have been announced for a relaunch next year.

According to the Mirror, owner WHP Global has signed an agreement with Toys 'R' Us Australia lead the brand's revival in the UK.

Online sales will begin over the "next several months" and will initially operate out of Australia.

UK teams, offices and logistics will be set up from 2022 with "physical retail" as well as online shopping.

Toys 'R' Us launched in the UK in 1985, but in 2017 the US parent company filed for bankruptcy after debts reached more than £3.5billion.

Its UK arm went into administration a year later after failing to attract a buyer, with thousands of workers losing their jobs.

The final branch closed in 2018 but the brand has more than 900 stores across 25 countries – many of which are still trading.

In August, the owner of HMV - Doug Putman - announced he would buy the Canadian branch of the toy store, as well as its sister company, Babies R Us.
