Toyota reveals why brand new stock of cars are being crushed

Brand new Toyota cars have been spotted destined to be recycled.

Models such as the Toyota Yaris, Toyota Hilux Pick-up and Toyota Aygo  were seen piled up on huge metal vehicle pallets.

All of the cars have been ordered by customers, but are now set to be disposed of after being damaged.

One reader got in touch with Derbyshire Live to share some pictures of the vehicles, questioning why it was taking place.

The world-renowned car brand though has been quick to respond, stating the cars were all damaged in flooding last year and will all be disposed of responsibly.

A witness who saw the cars sad: "I've seen all these brand new cars in Sandiacre.

"They are all brand new cars that are to be disposed of."

The pictures show different brand-new Toyota models on huge metal stands, all in different colours at the Motor Green vehicle recycle centre, in Station Road, Sandiacre.

A spokesman for Toyota confirmed all the cars were customer orders, but have been deemed un-driveable after being damaged by floods last year.

The spokesman said the cars will be sent for responsible disposal and recoverable material will be recycled. The spokesman also added that not all the cars were from Toyota's base in Burnaston.

The spokesman said: "The cars you’ve been sent pictures of are vehicles that were damaged to an un-driveable state by floods last year.

"All of the cars were customer orders but, due to the damage, could not be supplied to the customers. As said, they are damaged beyond use.

"The cars have been sent for responsible disposal. Batteries will be responsibly recycled and all recoverable materials will be recycled, as part of the disposals process.

"Incidentally, the cars in the pictures are not all from Burnaston. Burnaston produces Corolla and Corolla Touring Sports models."
