Toyota Ireland recalls Proace passenger vehicles over seat belt safety fears

Toyota Ireland is recalling one of its vehicles due to fears a seat belt may unbuckle.

The car manufacturer's Proace vehicles, made between 2016 and 2019, are affected by the recall.

A warning said in the event of emergency braking, the buckle on the window seat side at the front of the van may unbelt unintentionally.

The company is to contact owners of the affected vehicles to have the seat belt buckle inspected and replaced.

A statement from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission said: "Toyota Ireland is carrying out a voluntary recall of 'Proace' vehicles.

"Toyota has established there is a possibility in specific driving conditions, the outside passenger seat belt of the front bench seat may unbuckle unintentionally.

"If this occurs, the passenger sitting in the affected seat would not be secured by the seat belt in the event of an accident."

Consumers can check online if their vehicle is subject to the recall by clicking here . They can also contact Toyota Ireland Customer Relations on 01 419 0222.
