Toy Show the Musical sneak peek as star studded cast reveals first details of what to expect

The clock is ticking and rehearsals are well underway for the new RTE stage show Toy Show the Musical which is coming to Dublin this December.

Dublin Live had a sneak peek behind the scenes yesterday at the show which centres around a family and their Toy Show experience following a loss. Some well known faces will appear including Jamie Beamish playing Dad, Anna Healy as Nana and Clare Barrett as Mam.

Speaking to Dublin Live they told us about the preparations that are underway for the show and what punters can expect when it begins on December 10. Jamie Beamish said that the experience has been "great craic".

He joked: "We're far too young to be playing the roles obviously, like we're kind of aging up aren't we." While his co-star Aine added: "Particularly me, I'm aging up through the roof."

Jamie continued: "It's a shock to the system when you walk into rehearsals and there's 34 kids there. But it's great craic and the kids are amazing as well." Anna said: "There's so much talent, fantastic."

Clare Barrett added: "Their confidence and their absolute talent, that's the thing. And they're so excited to be a part of it and so delighted to be the ones that get to talk about it now. It was a big secret for them so now they can tell everybody and tell their friends and they're thrilled."

Jamie continued: "I was just saying before this how fearless they all were, and we were all in bits. We were all bricking it."

The story focuses on a young girl named Nell and her family's Toy Show experience after the loss of her mother. The cast described the story and how much they're looking to the performances.

Clare said: "The story is about a little girl, she's our hero, and on this night she is trying to create the joy and traditions that the family would have held prior to [her mother dying]. Because Toy Show night was always a big night. So she tries her best and takes it all on herself. So something happens and thankfully Nell saves the day."

Anna added: "Looking forward to it [the show] so much. But everytime I go down the Quays and I see the convention centre my heart skips a beat!"

Clare Keely who is one of the three girls that plays Nell said: "Everyone is so, so lovely both the cast and the team. It has been the best craic! There has not been one moment of this where I've been like, you know, aww I don't want to do this, I'm tired. All the songs are amazing, and the dancing, everything is just so fabulous about it."

Among the cast will be a familiar face to Toy Show fans, DJ Calum from last year's show, who will be playing Johnny Bagpipes. After his experience on the Toy Show last year with his hypeman brother Jackson, Calum decided to audition for the show and landed the part.

Calum told Dublin Live: "After the Toy Show we did gigs during the Summer and kept posting to Instagram and we decided to audition for Toy Show the Musical and now here I am! [My character] is a musician, he's a celebrity. He auditioned for the Toy Show and he got it, and he's very nervous. But his mam keeps putting too much pressure on him.

But he assured his fans he will always be a DJ first and foremost, adding: "I'll definitely be doing DJ'ing, I'll always keep that up."

The show opens on December 10 at the Dublin Convention Centre with tickets costing €25.
