UPDATE: A judge returned a verdict of not guilty against Otys Parris at Liverpool Crown Court on September 8, 2017, after prosecutors offered no evidence against him in respect of an allegation of gun possession
A Toxteth man has been charged with gun possession after being arrested at John Lennon Airport.
Otys Parris is set to appear in court tomorrow after being charged following the discovery of a pistol in Huyton last year.
He has been remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court.
Police swooped on Parris, of Dombey Street, at the airport on Tuesday.
He was questioned by detectives and was today charged with possession of a Section 5 firearm.
The allegations relate to the discovery of a self-loading Baikal pistol at a home in Reeds Road, Huyton, in November.
An investigation was launched when 38-year-old Dean Morgan was stop checked in a taxi on Childwall Valley Road, Belle Vale.
Morgan was found to be acting suspiciously and attempted to flee, but was detained by officers. He was later found in possession of drugs.
Further enquiries led to warrants being executed at addresses in Topsham Road and Reeds Road in Huyton and the recovery of further packages of heroin, a hydraulic press, the gun and ammunition.
The probe saw Morgan, of Harrow Road in Anfield, sentenced to 13 years in prison for possession of heroin with intent to supply, money laundering and possession of a firearm.
Daniel Kewley, 32, from Wellgreen Road in Childwall was sentenced to seven years and four months for possession of heroin with intent to supply and money laundering.
