Toxteth actor has lead in blockbusting rock ’n’ roll panto

A Toxteth actor will play the lead role in the rock 'n' roll panto Red Riding Hood at the Liverpool Everyman theatre - and it's certainly not to be missed.

The panto boasts jokes, laughs and a great cast of characters who bring to life a classic tale adding a new dimension and twists to the story. The audience are not denied their role as one big character and get their 'Oh yes it is', and 'it's behind you', moments in and much more.

Red Riding Hood is on until January 14, so there is plenty of time to have some festive fun and get down to see this show. Writer Peter Rowe has written eleven record-breaking rock n roll pantos and makes a welcome to Liverpool after 25 years having previously been Artistic Director at the Everyman and most recently at the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich.

Paislie Reid, plays lead Maisie Merry a.k.a Red Riding Hood told the ECHO: “It was absolutely amazing to get the part. The show is definitely a team effort, the ensemble cast are incredibly talented and everyone has a moment to shine.

“I think it’s really beautiful that many young people will feel like they can see themselves represented on stage. Anyone interested in acting, 20 Stories High youth theatre starts at age 14 -18 and is a brilliant way to get into performing. They’re so supportive of young people and helped me massively in my career.

“I loved working with Suba and musical director Rob Green and the cast and creative team have been supportive throughout. I hope everyone who comes enjoys the show and has an amazing Christmas.”

Paislie started her career in BAFTA nominated I’m a juvenile delinquent jail me, went on to feature in two seasons of CITV series The New Worst Witch. She continued her lucrative acting career performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company and many more and recently finished filming an episode of BRASSIC season 4 (Sky TV).

Characters Bodgit and Dodgit give warm and acrobatic performances and children and adults will love the humour and quick wit of Grandma Millicent Merry (Ben Welch). The singing and live music is brilliant including Paislie’s memorable rendition of a classic Wghitney Houston song and it’s all beautifully narrated by Aminita Francis (Cherry Blossom)

Everyman and Playhouse (EP) creative director Suba Das, directing this year’s show said: “It's the absolute highlight of my first six months to assemble the most diverse cast our iconic rock 'n’ roll panto has seen, opening up our stages to even more talent from the North West.

"The sheer scale of acting, singing, music-making and acrobatics was mind-blowing. We're all standing by to give the thousands of people who've already booked the most magical, musical Christmas and hope everyone will get stuck into the songs and silliness ahead."

EP Chief Executive Mark Da Vanzo told the ECHO: “We are delighted with the positive reaction that this year’s rock ‘n’ roll panto is getting from audiences. The exceptionally talented Red Riding Hood company brings a real energy and joy to the show that is the perfect tonic this festive season.”
