'Toxic!' Arsenal and Manchester United compared as Unai Emery claim made

Arsenal are enduring a period of uncertainty after a turbulent week for the club following the 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace.

The infamous scenes which saw Granit Xhaka cup his ear to fans after they booed him following his substitution was also followed by the midfielder allegedly shouting obscenities at the crowd.

This situation has only poured the pressure on Unai Emery and former Premier League midfielder turned pundit Robbie Savage has provided a worrying prediction.

Savage has likened the situation at Arsenal to what Manchester United have witnessed since Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, with fans putting pressure on the club following poor form, something which eventually led to the departures of David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho.

"Whether or not Granit Xhaka captains Arsenal again, a toxic atmosphere at the Emirates is by far the bigger picture," Savage explained in his column for Mirror Football.

"Apart from Xhaka being jeered off by his own supporters last weekend, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was accosted by idiots and abused as he drove away from the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace... although he is probably the Gunners’ best player.

"And manager Unai Emery was serenaded by fans calling for the return of playmaker Mesut Ozil.

"If Arsenal are not careful, they will be back in a cycle where unrest among the fans could force out the manager, like Emery’s predecessor Arsene Wenger.

"And they could end up going down the same path as Manchester United’s decline since Sir Alex Ferguson retired."
