Police are investigating after a primary school student was left on a bus in northern Queensland.

Authorities were called to Carinity Education Shalom in Condon after reports of a seven-year-old being left on a school bus on Tuesday morning.

The Christian college said staff had noticed the student was missing from class and raised the alarm just after 10am.

It is understood the student had fallen asleep on the bus on the way to school and is now safe.

In a statement, the school said the student is "now in good health and attending class as usual".

The school said it "has well-established processes to ensure the safe transport of students to school".

Detective senior sergeant Anne-Maree Lanigan said the investigation by the Child Protection Investigation unit was "ongoing and the child is not harmed".
