A Townsville man charged with the manslaughter of his three-year-old daughter will remain in custody.

Lawyers for the 27-year-old appeared in the Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday and said there was no application for bail at this stage.

Police said they were called to a Kelso property on Saturday night after two children were reported missing.

About 8.20pm, the three-year-old girl was found unconscious in a stormwater drain and was transferred to Townsville University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The two-year-old boy was found wandering alone in a nearby street.

Detectives from Townsville's Child Protection Unit have charged the man with one count of manslaughter, endangering children by exposure and driving under the influence of a drug.

The matter is due to return to court for a committal mention in February next year.
