Town's police station closed following fire which affected computer systems

Mansfield Police Station has closed following a fire in the building.

Nottinghamshire Police says the "small fire" was quickly brought under control but it has affected some of the force's computer systems.

People are being advised that front counter services in Mansfield are not currently available. The nearest station which is open is at the Kirkby-in-Ashfield Partnership Hub in Urban Road.

Superintendent Ian Roberts said: "We are dealing with localised disruption at the site, but as a force we have contingency plans in place to deal with this kind of incident.

"Those plans have been activated overnight to minimise disruption to the public and policing services in the Mansfield and Ashfield areas are largely unaffected.

"We will continue to update on this situation and I'd like to reassure the public that our staff, officers and volunteers will continue to be there when they need us."

The front counter at Kirkby is open until 4.30pm today.

It is not yet known when the Mansfield counter will re-open.

Anyone who needs to call police in an emergency can still call 999, or 101 for non emergencies.
