Locals in a seaside town say this year’s Christmas lights display is a load of pants.
About 10,000 went to watch the bands of yellow and white lights being switched on in Lyme Regis but walked home comparing them to pairs of Bridget Jones’s knickers.
Officials were left red-faced after locals compared them to a washing line bearing three pairs of Y fronts.
Daryl Turner, a local councillor, said: “It stopped me straight away, I saw it as soon as I looked up.
“They just look like three pairs of gold underpants on a washing line.
“I don’t know why, maybe I have a warped sense of humour.

“For me, I can’t help thinking of Bridget Jones’ big pants when I see them.
"Once you see it, it’s there forever.”
The lights are currently on display in Lyme Regis, Dorset.
Mayor Brian Larcombe said around 10,000 people attended the switch-on event.
He said: “We understand this year’s display has attracted a curious interpretation.

“It’s not obvious and it does take a particularly active imagination to see it, although once pointed out it does look amusing.
“I guess we should never underestimate what’s in some people’s minds.
“It wasn’t intended but I guess it brings a bit of light relief to these covid days.”

Resident Rosemarie Birnie said: “It looks lovely but all I can see are rows of knickers on a line.”
Michael Jefferies added: “Well done Lyme Regis for the golden knickers.”
