TOWIE star Joey Turner 'was mugged at knifepoint' and 'threatened with machete'

Reality TV star Joey Turner has claimed that he was mugged at knifepoint and threatened with a machete.

The Only Way Is Essex star Joey, 19, alleges that a man on a motorbike "drove into him", showed him a "knife" before threatening him with a "machete".

Joey wrote in an Instagram Stories post at the weekend: "Just got mugged in Finsbury Park, happy Saturday"

He continued: "I'm okay thanks everyone. Things can be replaced but it was just a gross experience :/

"he drove into me on his bike and then started threatening me showing me a knife in his pocket and saying he had a machete :/".

The TOWIE star says he got messages of supports from his fans and loved ones and thanked them in a further post.

Joey penned over a selfie: "thank you everyone for your messages, i'm not going through/checking DMs right now as i have anxiety and don't want to be on my phone, thank u all [i love you]".

The Mirror has reached out to representatives of Joey Turner for comment on this story.

Joey first joined TOWIE back in 2019 with fellow cast members Chloe Brockett, Ella Wise, and Harry Lee.

He continues to appear on the series, which recently returned to our screens on ITV Be for its 28th series.

The series has come into criticism for scenes filmed in bars and restaurants despite the country being in national lockdown, with 64 viewers complaining to broadcasting regulator Ofcom.

An ITV spokesperson said: "Series 28 of The Only Way is Essex will be filmed by Lime Pictures following strict COVID-19 protocols, ensuring that cast and crew are safe throughout.

"The show will still be bringing you the cast's real lives and stories, but to keep everyone safe TOWIE have had to create its own little world to film in."

They added: "So, although you may see cast in pubs and restaurants, don't worry because they've opened just for the show and have put in lots of extra measures, so Lime Pictures and ITV can still bring you the TOWIE you love safely."

*The Only Way Is Essex continues on Wednesdays and Sundays on ITV Be.
