Tower Dominion Beginner’s Guide – Heroes, Towers & More

Tower Dominion is a fun tower defense game with a roguelike twist. There are different factions and heroes for you to choose from, and the main goal is to survive an alien invasion. Enemies come in different waves, so you need to be prepared to defend your HQ. This Tower Dominion beginner's guide will show you everything you need to climb up the difficulty and survive.

Unlock Heroes

There are 30 heroes spread across 3 factions in Tower Dominion. Each hero has their unique passives and playstyle. The first thing you should focus on is to unlock all heroes by completing their requirements.

While you might not get all the heroes quickly, you'll unlock most by simply playing the game and progressing. Once you get a new one, don't be shy to try them out. Even if some heroes don't seem appealing at first, trying them out might change your mind once you find out what they can do in the game.

How to Get More Resources

Having resources is essential as it allows you to build new towers and upgrade existing ones. The main method of getting more resources is to clear each round and get a guaranteed +100 supplies. However, you'll quickly find out that getting only this much won't allow you to buy new towers.

Look around the map for neutral buildings that offer more supplies production, and build your towers adjacent to them. You can even get cards after finishing a round that might offer supplies or recon. Defeating enemies also grants you supplies. While you might not get a lot during the early stages, defeating enemies is one of the best ways to get supplies in the late game.

How to Best Spend Resources

Resource management is extremely important in Tower Dominion as it can make or break your runs. While you might be tempted to spend all your supplies or recon to get new buildings, we suggest that you spend them wisely.

Instead of spamming new buildings, you can upgrade current ones and make them even stronger. You gain resources even during the round, but you don't have to immediately use them all on building more.

Hold onto your tower cards for a while until you find a better spot to place them or you get a better tower. Building every tower you get will make it look like you have a strong defense, but in reality, it will consist of weaker structures that deal low damage.

Find Your Perfect Build Order

The game offers tons of different towers that have different purposes. Some are strong against ground units, while others are good against air units. Since there are so many options to choose from, you should experiment with the structures to figure out the best setup for a map.

The ideal build order for the early game is to build a few Mirador around the map alongside bunkers. Placing the Mirador at a height of 2 or 3 block will give you a massive advantage as it gives additional range. This way you can attack enemies that are far away and make sure that they don't get too close and overwhelm you (we only like being whelmed).

Where to Build Towers

Depending on what type of tower you are placing, you should try and place them on higher blocks. Towers like mortars should be placed out of the way so that they can target as many enemies as possible, rather than only hitting a few. Since some towers don't attack enemies close to them, ensure that you position them accordingly.

When you are expanding the map, you'll notice various neutral buildings spread across random areas. These structures grant you bonus passives that can range from giving you additional damage to having more recon production.

Since these buildings require you to build next to them, make sure that you use that to your advantage. Keep in mind that not all neutral buildings are worth it. So, if you come across some that are completely out of the way, you don't necessarily have to build near them.

Best Strategy to Win

Since Tower Dominion is a roguelike, there isn't a specific strategy you can use to win every run. Instead, we will share strategies that can work with every run with some adjustments on your end.

Focus on Upgrades

Players familiar with the tower defense formula will know how important it is to upgrade your buildings rather than spamming new ones. This will ensure that your current buildings are still useful at later stages.

There are multiple upgrade paths you can take, depending on what type of enemy is getting to your HQ. If aerial units are getting through, you should focus on upgrades that give you bonus damage against air units.

Plus, there are tons of upgrades that will make your mediocre structures turn into weapons of mass destruction. That's not to say you shouldn't make new towers. Keep a fine balance between the two, and you'll survive without any issues.

Carefully Place Towers

Tower Dominion has a unique mechanic that most tower defense games don't. There are blocks at multiple heights that give benefits depending on where you place the tower. If you place a tower at a height 0 block, the tower will not gain any benefit. However, if you place it at a height 2 block, the tower will gain additional range.

Make sure that you place your heavy-hitting towers at blocks with a height of 2 or 3. This will grant them a massive range and allow them to fire at enemies far away. Placing towers like the Mirador or Puma Position on blocks like these will give them significant range.

Expand Zones Strategically

After clearing a wave, you might be given an option to expand your zone. While this gives you more space to place towers, this also increases the battlefront. If you don't want the enemy to outnumber you quickly, expand in one direction so that the aliens have to travel a long way to get to you.

You can also create narrow passageways where you can place AoE towers that will take care of all enemies. However, the zones you get are random, so you will have to rely a bit on luck. Keep in mind that having more passageways will allow more enemies to come through. This will also increase their entryway to your HQ.

If you cannot find an ideal spot for the zone you're given, you can even reroll it for 25 Recon. Doing so will give you a new zone that might suit your situation better. So, don't be afraid to spend those Recon points to reroll zones.

Don't Be Afraid to Lose

One of the best tips you can get is not to be afraid of defeat. Since this is a roguelike game, your chances of winning every round are slim, unless you are super lucky and can get the perfect setup every time. So, don't worry if you can't win on your first attempt - or even multiple tries.

The more you play, the more upgrades you'll get for your buildings. This will make you even stronger in the next run. Plus, you'll also unlock heroes that give you different passives.
