Tower crane removed from stalled Elliot Lawless site

A tower crane has been removed from a stalled Elliot Group site in Liverpool city centre.

The giant structure, which had dominated the city's skyline, was removed from the Infinity towers site on the corner of Leeds Street yesterday.

The ECHO understand that a financial arrangement with the crane company could not be reached and the crane was therefore removed.

Last month Elliot Lawless, owner of the Elliot Group, announced that Infinity towers, Aura and The Residence schemes had all been placed into administration.

Investors from around the world have invested tens of millions of pounds in the three schemes.

The crane at the Infinity site arrived last summer and soon loomed large over the city's skyline. The Infinity scheme envisaged three structures which would have reached upto 39 storeys.

Last December Mr Lawless was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud, bribery and corruption. Mr Lawless was arrested on the same day as Liverpool council regeneration boss Nick Kavanagh. Mr Kavanagh was held on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and misconduct in a public office.

Mr Lawless has strongly denied any wrongdoing and has since launched a legal challenge into his arrest and the police search of his home and office.

Mr Kavanagh has not commented publicly on the matter.

The Vermont Group, who were the main contractors on the Infinity and Aura schemes, later ceased work on the sites.

Administrators David Rubin and Partners released a statement last month.. It read: "The Joint Administrators of the development sites at Residence in Manchester, Aura and Infinity sites located in Liverpool are pleased to confirm the appointment of property agents Lambert Smith Hampton (“LSH”) and Pantera ProperFes (“Pantera”) LSH and Pantera will be responsible for the marketing and sale of all three developments."
