Tower Bridge is stuck open after technical fault

Tower Bridge has been left stuck open after a technical fault.

City of London police said Tower Bridge was currently closed to traffic and pedestrians due to technical failure.

People have been asked to avoid the area while the technical fault is resolved.

The bridge had opened to let the Jubilee Trust Tall Ship through before getting stuck.

Londoners have flooded social media with photographs of the bridge.

Dramatic pictures showed pedestrians and cars unable to cross the iconic bridge.

One eye-witness wrote: “Tower Bridge is currently experiencing a technical fault and the bridge is stuck open.

“Slight pause to my walk #NursesActive but it was cool to see the bridge open for the first time in my life!”

Another wrote: “Tower Bridge appears to be stuck in the open position!!!”

“There goes south London I live my life at the peril of tower bridge, rotherhithe tunnel and Blackwall tunnel. I need to invest in a canoe.”

Tower Bridge opens up around 800 times a year which works out at around two times a day.
