Tower block residents evacuated during early hours blaze in Salford Quays

Tower block residents had to be evacuated in the early hours when a blaze broke out.

The fire started in the kitchen of a flat on the second floor of the high rise at Imperial Point, at Salford Quays, at around 3.35am.

Firefighters raced to the scene and used breathing apparatus and jets to tackle the fire.

It is not known how many people were evacuated from the building.

No external damage was caused to the building and the fire did not spread to other properties, the fire service said.

Nobody was injured and the fire was out within an hour, by 4.40am, GMFRS said.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews were sent to Imperial Point, in Salford, at 3.55am on Friday, February 21.

“Six fire engines and an aerial platform attended a high rise building on the Quays.

“The fire was within the kitchen of an apartment.

“Firefighters used breathing apparatus, an attack jet, a safety jet, a positive pressure fan, smoke curtains and thermal scanners to tackle the fire.”
