Tourists will be able to return to Spain from July 'under safe conditions'

Tourists will be able to return to Spain from July.

The Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez confirmed that holidaymakers can return "under safe conditions" later this summer.

The country is taking its first steps out of lockdown after reducing the COVID-19 reproduction rate to 0.20.

Mr Sánchez also confirmed that Spanish football can resume behind closed doors from June 8.

The nation has been one of the worst affected by the coronavirus crisis, with more than 27,000 deaths.

An international travel ban was imposed on British and non-EU travellers until June 15, with a two week quarantine in place.

However the Prime Minister has now indicated that people might be able to return in the not too distant future.

“From now, foreign tourists can plan their vacations in our country.

“We will guarantee that tourists will not run any risks and they will not bring us any risks."

The UK Government is continuing to advise people against all non-essential travel, with health secretary Matt Hancock indicating that people would be unlikely to be able to go on foreign holidays this summer.
