Tourists to Snowdonia branded "idiots" for hanging out of car windows in dangerous Snapchat stunt

North Wales Police have released shocking footage of visitors to Snowdonia climbing out of the windows of a moving car to take Snapchat selfies.

The footage was captured by an officer riding an unmarked bike in Eryri, Snowdonia, on Sunday, June 13.

The 55 second video shows two passengers climbing out of the windows of a silver Volkswagen as it drives through several bends in order to take pictures with their phones.

The footage shows the car weaving through the picturesque Welsh valleys, with the two passengers raising their torsos out of the car windows and holding aloft their phones, waving their arms.

Police branded this behaviour "stupid" (North Wales Police)

They are seen driving past pedestrians, while vehicles drive past on the other side of the road as they perform the shocking stunt.

Police say that tickets were handed out when the car was eventually stopped, at which point the officer was told that they were "taking pics for Snapchat", which was given as their explanation for the behaviour.

North Wales Police Roads Policing Unit tweeted: "Perfect example of stupid behaviour... Captured whilst one of our unmarked bikes was on #OpDarwen patrol in Snowdonia last Sunday.

"Car stopped and tickets issued. Stern words were also given.

"Their excuse - 'taking pics for Snapchat."
