PHETCHABUN: A large number of tourists are flocking to various destinations in this central northern province for New Year celebrations, with Khao Kho and Phu Thap Boek mountain resorts among the most popular.
The Lomkao police traffic centre reported that from Saturday night about 3,000 vehicles carrying about 12,000 tourists had so far headed for Phu Thap Boek to find a good location for tonight's New Year countdown activities.
Traffic was heavy on Sunday morning, particularly at the Phu Thap Boek intersection and on village roads.
At about 8.30am, four vehicles were involved in an accident at the S2 bend on the way up to Phu Thap Boek, and several tourists were injured.
One of the vehicles, a Honda Civic, hit a roadside concrete barrier and came to rest on top of it.
The injured tourists were admitted to Lomkao Hospital.
