Tourist in a camper van parked up 220 miles from home by a Welsh beach

Police stopped and reported a driver who had driven more than 220 miles to a Welsh seaside town.

Officers saw the blue camper van parked up at the seafront in Tywyn, in Gwynedd.

They were ordered to go home after the driver admitted travelling from Middlesex.

The motorist has been reported for breaking the coronavirus lockdown rules.

Police are reminding people that travel restrictions remain in place in Wales - with people only allowed to travel if their journey is essential.

However, in England driving to outdoor open spaces, either alone or with members of your household is allowed, as well as travelling to beaches or beauty spots.

Regulations against going on holiday or staying overnight at a holiday home or second home still apply across the UK.

Welsh health minister Vaughan Gething confirmed earlier this week that anyone caught crossing the border from England into Wales would be told by police to go home or issued with a fixed penalty notice.

Lockdown measures in Wales will remain in place for at least another three weeks.

Police in South Wales also warned against travelling to Wales after four people who had come from hundreds of miles from parts of England to paraglide at Nash Point in the Vale of Glamorgan were stopped and reported.
