Tourist gobsmacked after seeing Queen at Edinburgh station

A tourist could not believe his luck after capturing a picture of the Queen at Edinburgh Waverley railway station. Mick Kendrick, from Coalville in Leicestershire, took the snap yesterday (June 27).

In the image shared with Edinburgh Live, the Queen can be seen slowly sauntering from her train to a waiting car which appears to have pulled up at the edge of the platform. Mick said: "It was quite a strange experience to be fair, not one I was expecting to see when trying to get home.

"I mean what were the chances of seeing the Queen? Nobody could believe it."

Her Majesty, 96, travelled to Edinburgh for the historic Ceremony of the Keys at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. She was accompanied by her youngest son Edward and his wife Sophie, known as the Earl and Countess of Forfar.

The monarch has pulled back from a number of public events recently due to health issues. But she attended the event in Edinburgh and was handed the keys of the city and welcomed to her "ancient and hereditary kingdom of Scotland".

The trip comes after the recent Platinum Jubilee celebrations for the Queen, in which she pledged to continue to serve the country "to the best of my ability supported by my family".
