Tourist dies trying to climb Thai temple’s 1,260-step staircase

  • A Canadian tourist died after collapsing near the 1,100th step of the Tiger Cave Temple in Krabi, Thailand, on 29 March.
  • The man, who was climbing the 1,260-step staircase with his 61-year-old Thai wife, had complained of dizziness shortly before his collapse.
  • Emergency responders from the Krabi Phithak Pracha Foundation confirmed he had no pulse, and attempts to revive him by bystanders and paramedics were unsuccessful.
  • This incident occurred just three days after a 68-year-old Thai man also died at the summit of the same demanding temple climb.
  • The repeated fatalities and medical emergencies have prompted calls from Thai social media users for authorities to introduce stricter safety measures, including health screenings or limiting access for older visitors.
